Today, I was deeply honored to receive the endorsement of Road to Justice NYC, a coalition made up of 1199 SEIU, Community Voices Heard Power, and Make the Road Action.

My mother was a Registered Nurse at Harlem Hospital for over thirty years, and then worked as a visiting nurse for another ten years. She cared for the people of our City with every ounce of her being, but when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease almost seven years ago, care was nowhere to be found for her. As my mom’s primary caregiver, my journey in public service began when I saw how hard it was for families like ours to get their basic needs met — and for elders in our community to age with dignity, in place and at home. Her story is why this joint endorsement means so much to me.

Members of 1199 SEIU, Community Voices Heard Power, and Make the Road Action should know that so many pieces of our stories are connected — from immigrating to New York, sacrificing to care for others, and struggling to find safe and secure housing. They are the definition of community centered leadership. And together, we will uplift the voices of poor, working class, and marginalized New Yorkers. Together, we will keep our communities safe — because we know what keeps us safe: a quality education, safe and secure housing, and deep investments in social services and resources that ensure law enforcement stays as far away from our children as possible.

The road to justice is paved with the leadership of Black women and women of color, and I was proud to be endorsed alongside Amanda Farías, Jennifer Gutierrez, and Tiffany Cabán. It is more important than ever that we elect Black and Brown women who are committed to advancing equity and justice in our communities. COVID-19 has shown what so many of us have already known: that our communities have not been invested in the way that we deserve. But that ends here.

We have our work cut out for us. But we are not the first to walk this path. We stand on the shoulders of so many Black and Brown women who paved the way for this moment. We are our ancestors’ wildest dreams. I’m ready to honor their legacy and make them proud!

Thank you for your continued support of my campaign. I could not do this without you. It will truly take a village to bring the leadership and transformation that our communities deserve.

Onward!

Crystal
